I love spending free time walking around.
This time I decided to go with Andrea (my boyfriend) to the beach Furore. Of course January is not the right month to have a swim, but around one of the most famous bays of the Amalfi Coast there are some nice paths to do.
One of the walks I liked most is called “Sentiero dei pipistrelli impazziti” (Path of the crazy bats) and it consists in a nice and comfortable walk inside the woods behind the fjord of Furore. You can start the walk from the beach of Furore or, in case you like a good workout, you can take some steps situated after a petrol pump on the left (5 minutes walking on the road, direction Conca dei Marini).
As the path is easy and short, we decided to leave our car at the beach of La Praia, just a km before the Fjord and we walked along the road to Amalfi. The road itself is full of surprises. The first things you notice in La Praia are the nativity scenes made by locals in natural caves then, while walking, an incredible big rock with a shape of a woman appears to you! The rock is called “la madonnina” (the small statue of the Virgin Mary) and looks like the Virgin Mary with a bouquet of flowers in her hands (the bouquet is the only plant growth on the top of that rock). Local fishermen believe the rock protects them from evil spirits.
And, of course, the Amalfi Coast turns are amazing (be careful when you walk or drive there).
When we arrived at the fjord, we decided to walk a bit further and we took some steps to St. Elia’s Church. Then we started the path of the crazy bats. The path is immersed in the beautiful mediterranean nature and goes down to the beach of Furore. During the walk it is possible to admire a papermill and some old small canals before arriving to the beautiful fishing village with yellow and pink houses carved into the rock.
The sea was rough and none was there, we enjoyed the music of the waves and an incredibly warm winter sun.
